Luis Goytisolo, the acclaimed Spanish novelist and member of the Royal Spanish Academy, has died aged 91. His death occurred in Vimbodí, in the province of Tarragona, on Sunday.
Born in Barcelona on 17 March 1935, Goytisolo was best known for his monumental four-novel cycle Antagonía, a landmark of postwar Spanish literature. He was elected to seat C of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1994 and received Spain's National Literature Prize in 1992, followed by the National Prize for Spanish Letters in 2013. In 2018, he was awarded the Carlos Fuentes Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language.
A portion of his personal archive was acquired by the National Library of Spain in 2015, underscoring his lasting significance to the Spanish literary canon.
