Firefighters in County Tipperary hope to extinguish the Slievenamon wildfire within days as the blaze enters its fifth day and shifts toward the mountain's northeastern corner, Chief Fire Officer John Shinners said.
Renewed efforts on Thursday targeted remaining hotspots identified by a Civil Defence thermal imaging drone, with aerial support and additional crews deployed to the northeast side. Acting Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Carol Kennedy said the fire had subsided on the mountain's south side overnight, though Shinners warned that significant heat energy remains and flames reignite as temperatures rise.
Tipperary County Council reiterated there is no immediate threat to life but urged the public to avoid the area and keep the River Anner at Thorny Bridge clear as a water source. Residents downwind have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke, which has been visible nearly 100 km away over Cork city.
