Shohei Ohtani will miss the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia, marking the first absence of his career after six consecutive selections. The Los Angeles Dodgers star has been sidelined by left knee inflammation, which also forced him to skip a scheduled start on July 10 against the Diamondbacks and another outing on July 11.
Ohtani, who started as designated hitter and hit a leadoff home run in the July 10 game, is set to receive treatment to drain fluid from his knee after the Dodgers' final pre-break game on July 12. He was selected via fan vote for the Midsummer Classic at Citizens Bank Park.
Despite the injury, Ohtani has posted strong numbers this season, batting .290 with 20 home runs and 56 RBIs while compiling an 8-2 pitching record with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts. He stands one home run shy of 350 combined across his Japanese and American careers.
