Scottish actress Phyllida Law has died at the age of 94, her personal agent Jacky Leggo confirmed. Law died peacefully at home on 27 July, surrounded by her family, with her granddaughter Gaia Wise also acknowledging the death.
Born in Glasgow in 1932, Law built a career spanning stage and screen. She appeared in films including 'Peter's Friends' (1992), 'Much Ado About Nothing' (1993) and 'Emma' (1996), and her last screen role was in 'Then Came You' (2020). On stage, she appeared in 'The Winter Guest' (1995), directed by Alan Rickman, and 'Hedda Gabler' in 1996. She also authored two books, including a memoir about caring for a parent with dementia.
Law married actor Eric Thompson in 1957; he died of a heart attack in 1982 aged 53. She received an OBE in 2014 for services to drama and charity, and an honorary doctorate from Glasgow University in 2013.
