Samsung Electronics America is eliminating 739 positions at its Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey campus as part of a planned relocation of its U.S. headquarters to Texas, the company said. The affected roles represent roughly 62% of the site's workforce, which employs about 1,200 people. Samsung said most impacted New Jersey staff have been offered relocation opportunities.
The cuts extend beyond New Jersey. Approximately 100 workers at Samsung's Plano, Texas office, including mobile division staff, have also been let go. Additionally, Samsung affiliate Samsung SDS America flagged 179 potential job cuts at Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.
The restructuring comes as Samsung navigates diverging performance across its business units. The chip division is projected to deliver a 19-fold surge in second-quarter profit, while the mobile division is expected to post its first-ever quarterly loss. Samsung Electronics America handles U.S. sales and marketing for the company's displays, phones, televisions, and home appliances.
