Roommate says accused Charlie Kirk shooter confessed and expressed regret before surrender

Tyler Robinson, the man charged with aggravated murder in the September 2025 shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, confessed to his former roommate and expressed remorse before turning himself in, according to a recorded interview with authorities.

Lance Twiggs told investigators that Robinson left him a note reading "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it," and later texted him admissions including "I am" and "I'm sorry" when asked if he was the shooter. Twiggs said Robinson told him he wished he hadn't done it and began crying. Robinson told his roommate he targeted Kirk because he "had enough of his hatred," adding that "some hate can't be negotiated out."

Robinson surrendered at the Washington County Sheriff's Office following the killing. The Twiggs interview was recorded in April 2026, months after Robinson's arrest on charges stemming from the Orem, Utah, campus shooting.
