Rome's Colosseum and Pantheon will extend their visiting hours into the night throughout August 2026 under a new initiative promoted by the ministries of Culture and Tourism starting August 1.
The Colosseum will stay open until 23:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, while the Pantheon will welcome visitors until 23:00 every day except Thursday. In Milan, the Castello Sforzesco is adding two hours to its daily schedule, closing at 19:30 throughout the month.
The measure aims to spread visitor flows more evenly and encourage sightseeing during cooler evening hours. Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli said the initiative better showcases Italy's heritage, while Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi also commented on the trial.
