A replica mosque has been erected atop a loyalist bonfire in Moygashel, County Tyrone, alongside banners reading "Secure our borders" and "End the threat of radical Islam," drawing sharp condemnation from human rights advocates ahead of its scheduled lighting on July 10.
Amnesty International labelled the installation a blatant attempt to incite anti-Muslim hatred and intimidate local families, with its Northern Ireland director Patrick Corrigan urging police to intervene and investigate. SDLP councillor Carl Whyte called the display "absolutely disgusting." The same bonfire site was used last year to burn effigies of migrants in a boat, and last month police removed a banner from a nearby children's playpark as part of a hate crime probe.
The pyre is among hundreds of Eleventh Night bonfires set to burn across Northern Ireland between July 10 and 12, preceding the Orange Order's annual summer parades.
