French MEP Raphaël Glucksmann has confirmed his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, entering a crowded field ahead of the first round scheduled for April 18. The 46-year-old announced in May that he would tour the country to propose a "new patriotic contract."
The decision carries immediate media consequences: his partner, journalist Léa Salamé, is expected to step down from presenting France 2's evening news to avoid conflicts of interest. Glucksmann, who served as an adviser to Mikheil Saakashvili from 2009 to 2013, can point to 13.8% won at the last European elections, though polls currently place him between 10% and 12%.
The Socialist Party and Place Publique plan an October primary to select a unified candidate. Marine Le Pen formalised her bid in July, while Jean-Luc Mélenchon runs for a fourth time.
