Progressive candidates are leading polls in Democratic primaries across Minnesota and Wisconsin on Tuesday, pitting left-wing challengers against establishment figures in key congressional and gubernatorial races.
In Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan, backed by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, is challenging incumbent Representative Angie Craig for the Democratic Senate nomination. Flanagan has called for abolishing ICE and starting over, while Craig has expressed regret over her vote for the Laken Riley Act. On the Republican side, Mike Lindell leads the gubernatorial primary with Donald Trump's endorsement. In Wisconsin, Francesca Hong leads the Democratic gubernatorial primary, while David Crowley briefly exited and re-entered the race with Governor Tony Evers' backing.
The contests follow Abdul El-Sayed's narrow victory over Haley Stevens in Michigan's August 5 Senate primary. El-Sayed told NBC's Meet the Press that Democratic primary turnout exceeded Republican totals by 500,000 voters. Separately, Trump signed an executive order splitting the MMR vaccine into three individual doses.
