An extremely dangerous tornado struck north-eastern Wisconsin on Monday, leaving a trail of severe destruction through the Fox Cities region. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado in Winnebago County, where it tracked over Lake Winnebago heading south toward Fond du Lac County.
Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson reported extensive damage in Menasha and Fox Crossing, including collapsed buildings. Power was knocked out to more than 30,000 people, with the entire city of Menasha, home to approximately 18,000 residents, losing electricity due to a downed transmission line. The tornado hit Menasha and the east side of Fox Crossing at about 12:20 p.m.
No fatalities or injuries were reported as of Monday afternoon. The NWS had issued a tornado warning for the Fox Cities region at 11:59 a.m. Severe weather was forecast to continue across east central and south-eastern Wisconsin through the afternoon.
