The 61-year-old man partially sucked from a Ryanair cabin window on Friday remains hospitalised in Thessaloniki with severe neck and shoulder injuries, friction burns, and psychological trauma, his family said.
Ljubisa Karovic's wife, Svetlana Maksimovic, told Greek public broadcaster ERT that his seatbelt saved his life when the window shattered shortly after takeoff. She said his face was left severely disfigured, with damage to his ears, eyes, and nose. An aviation consultant hired by the family contends a loose engine component struck the pane, triggering decompression on the Thessaloniki-to-Memmingen flight.
North Macedonian authorities are leading the investigation of the incident, which occurred in North Macedonian airspace, with assistance from Boeing, the US National Transportation Safety Board, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
