Italian singer Francesco Renga was escorted off a Ryanair flight from Brindisi to Milan Orio al Serio shortly before takeoff on July 5 after a confrontation with cabin crew and passengers that prompted the pilot to taxi back to the gate.
The dispute began at the boarding gate over an oversized bag, which Renga agreed to pay a surcharge for after a lengthy negotiation. Once on board, Renga reportedly protested the flight's delay and directed insults at flight attendants and fellow passengers. Witnesses said he appeared visibly agitated and smelled of alcohol, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The pilot deemed Renga unfit to fly, halted the aircraft on the taxiway, contacted authorities, and returned to the gate, where Renga and his companion were disembarked. The flight, already delayed roughly 30 minutes, departed at 00:30 on July 6.
