Osvaldo Bagnoli, the manager who guided Hellas Verona to an improbable Serie A championship in 1985, has died at the age of 91. He passed away on July 17 at Borgo Roma hospital in Verona after a prolonged battle with a neurodegenerative illness.
Bagnoli coached Verona from 1981 to 1990, a golden era for the provincial club that culminated in a surprise league title. He later managed Inter Milan and Genoa before stepping away from the sideline. Verona named him honorary president in 2018.
A former player whose career spanned from 1955 to 1973, Bagnoli had been transferred roughly three weeks ago to the Pia Opera Ciccarelli care facility in San Giovanni Lupatoto before his final admission to hospital.
