Several people were killed and others wounded on Saturday afternoon when a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, before the suspect was also killed, police said.
Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed multiple fatalities and the death of the suspected shooter but could not immediately provide an exact toll. A city spokesperson initially reported at least three dead and two injured, while a county commissioner said a sheriff had indicated five people were wounded. The incident was reported around 2:30 p.m. local time on Blue Lakes Boulevard North. A bystander told reporters he saw a person with an AR-style rifle emerge from the drive-through before a man with a handgun began firing at the gunman.
FBI agents were on the scene assisting the investigation. A nearby mall and Chick-fil-A were locked down as a precaution. The In-N-Out location, the chain's fourth in Idaho, had opened just over a week earlier on 24 July.
