Guillermo Ochoa has announced his retirement from professional football at age 41, closing a 22-year career that included a record-equalling six FIFA World Cup appearances, matching Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ochoa made his final appearance at the 2026 World Cup, coming on as a substitute against the Czech Republic at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. He finishes his international career with 154 caps for Mexico, having helped El Tri win six CONCACAF Gold Cups and an Olympic bronze medal at Tokyo 2020.
The first Mexican-born goalkeeper to play in Europe, Ochoa represented nine clubs across seven countries, from Club America to AEL Limassol, and won league and cup honours in Mexico and Belgium. He gained global recognition for standout performances against Brazil in 2014 and Germany in 2018.
