Kylian Mbappé criticised France's technical and tactical shortcomings after a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semifinal on Monday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The French captain said the squad failed to execute their planned game, pointing to a midfield imbalance where Spain's Rodri, Dani Olmo and Fabian Ruiz regularly outnumbered France 3-on-2. Mbappé conceded his side were outclassed at a technical level and said the team were simply not up to the standard required.
France now advances to the third-place playoff in Miami on Saturday, where they will face either England or Argentina.
