Jorge Martin secured pole position for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone with a new track record of 1 minute 56.160 seconds on Saturday, then went on to win the sprint race later that afternoon.

Raul Fernandez qualified second, just 0.021 seconds off the pace, with Ai Ogura completing the front row a further 0.168 seconds back. Martin's lap broke the previous Silverstone record of 1:56.280. Ogura finished second in the sprint and Marco Bezzecchi third, while Marc Marquez struggled with rear tyre wear and could only manage ninth.

Francesco Bagnaia, meanwhile, was eliminated in Q1 and will start Sunday's grand prix from 16th. Martin's sprint victory extended his championship lead to 220 points, 17 clear of Ogura.
