A man in his 40s was found dead with gunshot wounds in a car on St Bartholomew's Road in Newham, east London, after police were called to the scene at approximately 03:00 BST on Tuesday. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and a murder investigation has been opened. No arrests have been made.
Forensic officers examined the front of the victim's white Toyota Prius, which had collided with a black Range Rover at the scene. The Range Rover is registered to Abdul Qadir, director of estate agency ARQ Homes. Detectives are exploring a possible link to a shooting in Clapham a week earlier that killed a 25-year-old man. The victim's family is being supported by specialist officers.
Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them via 101, citing reference CAD797/18AUG. A local councillor expressed concern over rising violence in the area. Government data recorded 32 firearm homicides in England and Wales between April 2024 and March 2025, accounting for 6% of all murders.
