Abderrahim Fakir, a 43-year-old Moroccan national, died on Saturday after being restrained by police during an intervention in the Pilastro district of Bologna, Italy.
Police were called by residents who heard shouting at an address on Via Svevo. Officers found Fakir striking a patrol car and responded with pepper spray before securing his wrists with cable ties. A bystander's video shows two officers kneeling on his back as he lay on the ground. Fakir fell ill shortly after and died.
His brother and sister told reporters he had existing health problems. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
