A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the Molise region of southern Italy early Friday, shaking buildings across several provinces but causing no reported injuries or damage.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology recorded the tremor at 00:08 local time with its epicentre two kilometres from the town of Pizzone in the province of Isernia, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The quake was felt across the wider Isernia area and in the neighbouring provinces of Chieti, L'Aquila, Caserta and Frosinone, near the borders of Abruzzo and Lazio.
A magnitude 2.2 aftershock followed at 03:41 in the same area at a depth of nine kilometres. Initial assessments found no damage to people or property.
