French President Emmanuel Macron has promulgated a military programming law approved by parliament, unlocking €36 billion in armed forces investment through 2030. The legislation, set for publication in the Official Journal, will double the defence budget starting in 2027.
The spending package is designed to bolster cyber capabilities, drone programmes, and broader defence innovation. It also reconfigures a voluntary military service scheme for young people aged 18 to 25.
The law reflects France's push to modernise its armed forces and strengthen strategic autonomy at a time of heightened security concerns across Europe.
