London and New York mayors say Israeli PM Netanyahu unwelcome in their cities

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in the British capital and that the UK government should enforce the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant if he visits. Khan, who told Channel 4 he believes genocide is being committed in Gaza, said he would work with Prime Minister Andy Burnham to ensure the law is upheld. The Israeli embassy in Britain accused Khan of adopting a "genocide lie".

In New York, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would seek Netanyahu's arrest upon arrival for the UN General Assembly in September, while acknowledging his administration lacks the legal authority to carry it out and urging the federal government to act.

The ICC issued its warrant in November 2024 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
