A Liberian-flagged liquefied gas tanker carrying more than 3,790 tonnes of propane caught fire in the Black Sea after being struck approximately 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast, outside the country's territorial waters. All 17 crew members of the Gas Lisbon were evacuated; three sailors were injured, two suffering burns to 10–15 percent of their bodies. A tug has been dispatched to prevent the drifting vessel from posing a navigation hazard.
The tanker had departed Alexandria, Egypt, and was bound for the Ukrainian river port of Reni when the explosion occurred near Sfântu Gheorghe, inside Romania's exclusive economic zone. Romanian broadcaster Digi24 reported a naval drone was used in the attack.
Romanian President Nicușor Dan said the incident is "most likely part of the Russian Federation's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine". Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha blamed Moscow for the strike.
