Italy's network of historic condominium theatres has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, a decision announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli. The designation covers ten 18th- and 19th-century venues across central Italy, formally known as the Italian-style condominium theatre system, and brings Italy's total UNESCO sites to 62, maintaining its lead over all other nations.
The decision was taken during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, running 19–29 July 2026. The bid was led by the Marche region with coordination from the Culture Ministry and backing from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The listed theatres span towns including Jesi, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, and Spoleto. Fabriano's mayor Daniela Ghergo hailed the recognition as historic for the town's Teatro Gentile.
