Pippo Di Marca, a prominent figure in Italy's avant-garde theatre scene who later appeared in film, has died at 86 after falling from a fifth-floor terrace at his home in Rome's Trastevere district on Tuesday morning.
Police said no elements point to foul play, treating the incident as either an accidental fall or a deliberate act. A note addressed to his family was found in which Di Marca wrote that he could no longer endure his illness, describing his body as feeling like a corpse and declaring "the show is over."
Born in Catania in 1939, Di Marca began his acting career in 1969 under director Giancarlo Nanni. He reached a wider audience playing former Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti in Marco Bellocchio's 2019 film "The Traitor."
