ITA Airways launches cabin service for large dogs on domestic flights

· Business ITA

ITA Airways, the Italian subsidiary of Lufthansa, is accepting bookings for its 'Large Dog On Board' service, which allows dogs weighing up to 30 kilograms to fly in the aircraft cabin without a carrier. The service goes into operation on August 3 and is available on selected domestic routes following authorization from Italy's civil aviation authority, ENAC.

A maximum of two large dogs are permitted per flight — one up to 30 kg in Business class and one up to 15 kg in Economy. Dogs must be leashed and muzzled and are assigned window seats. Reservations require at least four days' advance notice through the airline's customer assistance office.

A demonstration flight took place between Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino ahead of the launch. ITA Airways has said it plans to extend the service to international routes.
