Irish police seized 166 e-bikes and e-scooters, seven electric dirt bikes, four scrambler motorcycles, and three quad vehicles during a high-impact day of action under Operation Meacán in the Dublin Metropolitan Region on Tuesday.

An Garda Síochána conducted 96 searches that also yielded a sawn-off shotgun with ammunition, suspected drugs valued at approximately €158,000, and €25,820 in cash. Five people were arrested; four have been charged and will appear before court on a future date, while a man detained on a bench warrant has already appeared.

Operation Meacán, launched in December 2023, targets the use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters, and e-bikes for criminal activity. The operation coincides with new regulations taking effect this month that will prohibit e-scooter use by anyone under 18 and mandate helmets and high-visibility jackets.
