Ireland faces a prolonged spell of intense heat this week, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 30°C and authorities moving to restrict water use in the hardest-hit areas.
Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow high temperature warnings for counties across Munster and Connacht, effective from Tuesday afternoon. From Wednesday, the alerts expand to cover much of the midlands and northwest, with maximum daytime temperatures expected to exceed 27°C and overnight minima staying above 15°C. A nationwide weather advisory remains in place through Thursday, with potential impacts including heat stress, forest fires and drought.
Uisce Éireann has announced a water conservation order taking effect from July 16 across Dublin, south Tipperary and parts of several neighbouring counties, with breaches carrying fines of up to €5,000. Forecasters expect high pressure to persist through the week, with models indicating very little rainfall over the next 10 days.
