Iran has rejected a newly announced US campaign of economic pressure, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declaring the measures destined to fail based on the outcomes of previous sanction rounds.
Araghchi's remarks responded to President Donald Trump's announcement of what he called an unprecedented economic war and isolation aimed at severing all financial channels supporting Tehran. Writing on social media, Araghchi noted that past maximum pressure efforts had also collapsed.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei went further, arguing the sanctions represent far more than economic warfare against a single country and warning they could lead to a complete erosion of sovereignty in the international system. Baqaei contended that secondary sanctions lack basis in international law and violate the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the UN Charter.
