The International Olympic Committee's ethics commission has dismissed a complaint filed by advocacy group FairSquare against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, ruling the matter falls outside its jurisdiction.
FairSquare lodged the complaint in early July 2026, alleging Infantino breached the Olympic Charter's political neutrality rules through his closeness to US President Donald Trump. The filing cited Trump's award of FIFA's inaugural peace prize and a phone call after which a one-match ban for US forward Folarin Balogun was suspended for 12 months.
The IOC said the complaint relates solely to FIFA's internal governance and management decisions, over which international federations retain autonomy under the Olympic Charter. UEFA had earlier condemned the Balogun ruling as "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable."
