Indonesian authorities have seized 1.3 tonnes of ketamine with an estimated street value of more than $116 million from a Tanzanian-flagged cargo ship intercepted in the waters off the Riau Islands. A joint team from the navy, national police, the National Narcotics Agency and customs authorities arrested eight crew members — one Taiwanese and seven Myanmar nationals — aboard the MV King Sun near Tanjung Berakit.
Acting on intelligence received in February that the vessel was sailing from eastern Thailand with a suspect cargo, a naval warship intercepted the MV King Sun as it entered Indonesian waters on Thursday. The joint team discovered 65 hidden bags containing ketamine during a search on 7 August.
The case was publicly disclosed at a press conference at the Kodaeral IV naval base in Batam on Sunday.
