Hamburg port operator HHLA reported a first-half net loss of 4.2 million euros for 2026, as its container handling volume fell 6.7 percent to roughly 2.9 million standard containers. Earnings before interest and taxes dropped about one-third to 51.3 million euros, even as group revenue rose 3 percent to 910.9 million euros. The company cut its full-year profit forecast to between 150 million and 170 million euros.
The broader Port of Hamburg handled 56.1 million tonnes of cargo in the first half, down 3.1 percent from a year earlier. Container throughput at the port slipped 3.8 percent to four million TEU, with trade to the United States falling 13.5 percent and China-bound volumes down 3.4 percent. The Iran conflict dragged liquid bulk handling down 14 percent.
Some corridors bucked the trend, with throughput to Finland rising 24.7 percent and Singapore up 13.1 percent.
