Germany has lifted restrictions on presenting Afghan nationals for identification, expanding deportations beyond convicted criminals and security threats to include all enforceable exit cases. The German Federal Police removed the previous limitations, allowing regular deportation procedures for those obligated to leave the country.
The identification process involves cooperation with representatives of the Taliban government. Criteria for deportation remain limited to adult, single males with enforceable departure orders.
Interior Minister Roman Poseck confirmed the federal government has established conditions for systematic deportations. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt reaffirmed on July 21 the push to accelerate returns to Afghanistan following a fatal attack on a student in Trier.
The policy shift marks a significant widening of Germany's deportation framework toward Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
