German police search for family that took injured baby from hospital

German authorities are searching for a family that removed an injured infant from a hospital in the Schwarzwald-Baar district without authorisation, prompting a criminal investigation for dangerous bodily harm against a family member, the Konstanz Police Department said.

The child was being treated at the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic when the mother took the infant away without permission on Thursday evening. Police acting on intelligence searched a property in Mönchweiler on Thursday night but did not find the family.

The investigation is focused on a family member, police spokesman Daniel Brill said. Authorities have not confirmed any link between the current case and a mid-June incident in Mönchweiler, where witnesses reported an intoxicated couple with a child at a sports ground and police allegedly responded too slowly.
