Spanish police have recovered a seven-day-old baby and arrested her parents and a third relative following an abduction from a hospital in Gandia, Valencia, officials said Thursday.
Agents located the infant on July 10, a day after she was taken from the neonatal unit of the Francesc de Borja Hospital around 7:30 a.m. on July 9. Hospital security had alerted the National Police, who launched a search for the girl, who had been admitted after testing positive for cocaine.
Authorities detained the father, an Algerian national identified as the alleged abductor, and later arrested the mother at the hospital. A third suspect — the mother's adult daughter, around 20 years old — was also arrested for allegedly helping to hide the newborn. The Valencian regional government assumed emergency guardianship of the child on grounds of neglect the same day she was taken.
