Open-air swimming pools in southwestern Germany near the French border are tightening security after a series of police interventions this season. In late June 2026, the Auenheim pool in Kehl was cleared by police following rule violations by groups of young men from France, though police and city accounts differ on how many were involved.
Kehl has since cut the pool's capacity from 1,600 to 1,400 and now requires day-ticket buyers to provide personal details and carry photo ID, with violations punishable by a ban through the end of the season.
In Müllheim, police have responded to the local pool twelve times during the 2026 season, mostly for disturbances but also for assault, harassment and theft. The town introduced bag checks and mandatory ID for ticket purchases about two weeks ago.
