A 28-year-old man was seriously injured after being attacked by several men outside a restaurant in Völklingen, a town in Germany's western Saarland state, early Wednesday evening.
The initial assault triggered a large-scale confrontation on the street, where between 80 and 100 people gathered, with as many as 20 actively fighting. More than 30 police officers, including a canine unit, were deployed to separate the crowds and restore order.
The violence reportedly stemmed from a dispute between two families, though authorities have not elaborated on the nature of the feud. The circumstances surrounding the injured man's condition and the identities of those involved in the brawl have not been disclosed.
