Jason Arday, the former University of Cambridge professor who resigned last week amid plagiarism allegations, has been found dead at his home in south London. He was 41.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to an address in Battersea by the London Ambulance Service at 3:12 p.m. on Friday, where a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Deborah Prentice expressed sadness over Arday's death.

Arday, appointed in 2023 as Cambridge's youngest ever Black professor of sociology of education, resigned on August 5 following accusations that more than 100 passages in his doctoral thesis resembled a student's earlier work. The allegations were raised by Nathan Cofnas, a former Cambridge academic dismissed in 2024. Arday's autobiography was published this week in the United States by an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
