A passenger ferry carrying 95 people capsized Tuesday on Lake Kariba in northern Zimbabwe, and several people are believed to have died in the incident.
The vessel, named Mbuya Nehanda, was carrying 90 passengers and five crew members when it overturned. The ferry operated a regular route linking the town of Kariba with several islands and fishing villages on the lake. Heavy waves were cited as the cause of the capsizing.
Lake Kariba, which sits on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia roughly 300 kilometres northwest of Harare, is the world's largest man-made lake by volume.
