Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished fourth and fifth respectively after a strategic dispute and slow pit stops cost Ferrari a likely podium. The incident centered on a botched pit-stop sequence around lap 42, when Leclerc defied a team order to pit and stayed out an additional two laps, holding up his faster teammate.
Hamilton vented his frustration over team radio, sarcastically praising the crew for "a great way to waste time". After the race, he said the internal dispute over track position "probably cost us the podium, at minimum". Leclerc countered that he was never asked to yield his position. A late virtual safety car period further complicated Ferrari's race.
Team principal Fred Vasseur acknowledged execution errors, saying the strategy "did not go well." Hamilton dropped to joint second in the championship standings, level on points with George Russell and 59 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli. Ferrari next races at its home grand prix in Monza in two weeks.
