Spain claimed their second World Cup on Sunday as Ferran Torres scored a 106th-minute winner to defeat Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford before a crowd of 80,663.
Torres, a 26-year-old Barcelona forward named player of the match, converted a layoff from Nico Williams following a Pedro Porro cross deep into extra time. Argentina, reduced to 10 men after Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card, managed only one shot across the entire match.
The victory arrived 16 years after Spain's first World Cup triumph at South Africa 2010. Torres, who has scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Barcelona this season, also helped Spain win Euro 2024. He began his career at Valencia before spells at Manchester City and Barcelona, the latter signing him for roughly 45 million euros in December 2021.
