A former senior adviser to the Federal Reserve Board was sentenced to 38 months in prison on Wednesday for lying to federal investigators about his contacts with Chinese intelligence operatives.
U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich also ordered 12 months of supervised release for John Harold Rogers, 64, who served in the Fed's division of international finance from 2010 to 2021. Prosecutors said Rogers began sharing restricted central bank information with a Chinese intelligence operative in 2017.
A federal jury in February convicted Rogers of making false statements to government investigators but acquitted him of conspiracy to commit economic espionage. The U.S. Justice Department confirmed the sentencing on July 15, 2026.
