The European Commission has rejected the registration of a European Citizens' Initiative called 'Save Europe Act,' which sought to suspend asylum and family reunification and return migrants deemed 'unintegrated' to their countries of origin.
Brussels ruled the proposal manifestly contrary to EU values, saying it would discriminate on grounds of race and ethnic origin and failed to meet formal requirements. The initiative was launched by Austrian activist Martin Sellner and Dutch commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek, with Italian lawmaker Roberto Vannacci also among its supporters. Organisers said the campaign had already gathered nearly 600,000 informal signatures.
Sellner and Vlaardingerbroek confirmed they received the Commission's refusal email and announced plans to file a lawsuit as early as Monday.
