The European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs has urged Beijing to leverage its influence over Vladimir Putin as a precondition for normalising relations, as an eight-member delegation led by chairman David McAllister concluded the panel's first official visit to China.
The three-day trip, which began on 21 July, included talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing covering economic imbalances, human rights, and Indo-Pacific security. Lawmakers criticised what they described as China's "hostile" equidistance between Moscow and Kyiv, noting that Beijing purchases Russian oil and gas at roughly half the market price while declining to assume responsibility for the invasion.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet Shanghai municipal officials and local technology executives. Separately, the European Commission fined AliExpress €550 million for failing to combat the sale of illegal products, underscoring broader trade frictions between Brussels and Beijing.
