Lithuania's incoming Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius presented his government's policy program to parliament on Monday, pledging to normalize diplomatic relations with China to the level maintained by other European Union member states while sustaining strong support for Ukraine against Russia.

The coalition government, formed after the 2024 parliamentary elections by the Social Democrats and their partners, signaled a shift in Taipei relations after the Foreign Ministry suspended negotiations on an economic cooperation action plan with Taiwan. Vilnius has also joined France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands in calling for broader trade defense tools including tariffs to counter China at the European Council.

On defense, the government committed to maintaining military spending at no less than 5 percent of GDP and preparing to host a German brigade by 2027, alongside investments in air defense, drone countermeasures, and Baltic defense lines. The program is scheduled for a parliamentary vote on July 14.
