Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS will not participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, marking its second consecutive boycott of the competition over Israel's involvement. The broadcaster returned responsibility for the Netherlands' entry to the NPO, the country's public television umbrella organization.
Director-General Taco Zimmerman said the contest has become a platform for division and can no longer be considered neutral due to the war in Gaza. AVROTROS stated that participation no longer aligns with its values of reliability, independence, and humanity.
The Netherlands was among five countries that boycotted the 2026 contest — alongside Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, and Iceland — contributing to a viewership drop of 35 million to 131 million. Israel placed second in both 2025 and 2026. The 2027 contest is scheduled for May in Burgas, Bulgaria, following Darina Yotova's victory in Vienna.
