Dubai is offering residents discounts and perks worth more than $800 if they invite friends and relatives to visit the emirate, part of a push to revive tourism after visitor numbers declined. Under the 'A Dubai Invite' programme, which runs from 20 July through 31 October, residents can earn up to three benefit packages valued at 3,000 dirhams each, redeemable at hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Qualifying hosts can receive discounts of up to 45 percent on hotel stays and complimentary amusement-park tickets.
The initiative, launched after tourists have largely turned away from Dubai, adds to an annual base of roughly 19.5 million visitors. The emirate has taken broader economic measures to cushion businesses: in May the government approved a stimulus package exceeding $400 million to help firms cope with the fallout from war and an Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. That followed an earlier relief package of more than $270 million introduced in late March for businesses and households.
