A 26-year-old Deutsche Bahn security worker was left in critical condition after falling from a moving train during a physical altercation with a passenger on Friday evening.
The incident occurred during a ticket inspection on the route between Offenburg and Karlsruhe. A 36-year-old passenger, suspected of being intoxicated, verbally abused security staff before the confrontation turned physical. During the struggle near Ettlingen-Bruchhausen, a train door opened for reasons that remain unclear, and the guard fell out.
The injured employee was discovered approximately two kilometres beyond where the train stopped, lying along the tracks, and was transported to hospital. The suspect was detained aboard the train. Authorities are investigating how the door opened while the train was in motion.
