More than 230,000 people in Denmark have downloaded AltID, the country's first official mobile application for digital identification and proof of age, in the weeks since its June 3 launch.
The app, developed by the Danish Agency for Digitalisation, allows users to document their identity and age directly from a mobile phone. It is available to anyone over the age of 13 with a Danish civil registration number and currently contains an age verification certificate and an identification card. The agency has stated it does not log user identities or ages.
A national health card is expected to be integrated into AltID within months, with a driver's licence to follow at a later stage. The rapid uptake signals strong public appetite for consolidating official documents into a single digital platform.
